I'm having major trouble with deciding what ship to fly. Since I created this character I've just been focusing on fitting skills and such.
What I want: -I don't have a particular preference towards any given racial ship, though I love the models for Amarr frigates, and the larger ships that Gallente fly (I love the Brutix model for some bizarre reason lol) -Wanted in PvP fleets -Fun Ewar (I'm really leaning towards Caldari for ECM solely for this) -Recon ships (I love these babies, all of them have some really cool bonuses)
What I don't want: -To rely on missiles. I don't mind using them, but I don't want them to be the main source of damage I deal
So some questions to you all:
1) When reading through the item database, I noticed the comments on several Gallente ships (in particular BS's) say they have a low cap and as such have trouble fitting hyrbid turrets for their size and usually fit one size smaller (i.e. BS fitting medium hybrids). Is this true? Or do you find Gallente ships don't really have trouble fitting turrets appropriate for their size?
2) Would it be totally stupid to fit a weapon associate with 1 race onto another racial ship? I.e. fitting projectile turrets onto Gallente ships? The only one I can see immediately see causing a problem would be fitting lasers on non-Amarr ships as only Amarr ships get the reduced cap usage bonus.
3) My biggest concern with flying Amarr is they only ever do EM and Thermal damage. Seems great for taking on shielded targets, but they seem to be at a huge disadvantage when fighting targets that are armor tanked. Am I missing something here?
4) My biggest concern with flying Minmatar is their racial Ewar is Target Painting, which I'm not really a big fan of and would rather use something else. I also hate the looks of their ships, they look like flying piles of rust.
5) My biggest concern with Caldari is missile reliance, which is something I want to avoid. Can their ships do comparable damage with just hybrids? I know the Rokh is popular, but what about cruisers - do they do ok with just hybrids?
6) My biggest concern with Gallente is everybody on the forums say blasters are bad. Though I have no idea why, I've tried to read threads here and in the old forums, but it seems more like people are just trolling most of the time and I can't get any specific reason as to why they are bad. How are rail guns? Are they "bad" too?
I would really appreciate your feedback here, as I'm at a total loss on what I should be flying for missions and pvp and I don't want to waste 3-6 weeks training starship command skills only to find I hate the ship I end up in. |
